Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy

Hey, y'all. This holiday season, I'm missing my Auntie JJ a little extra. She was a phenomenal cook, hostess, and homemaker -- and is much of the inspiration behind the blog. One of her favorite holiday candies to make for friends and neighbors - and most certainly the easiest of her recipes - was her Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy. And I'm thrilled to be sharing the recipe with y'all today in her honor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I cook this crockpot candy on low or high?

You will want to cook my JJ's Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy on low.

Is there an optimal way to layer the ingredients in the crockpot?

Absolutely. You'll layer it in the crockpot in the order that the ingredients are listed in the recipe: dry-roasted peanuts, semi-sweet chocolate chips, german sweet chocolate, vanilla bark (almond).

Can I use a different nut in this recipe?

While I do think peanuts are the best for this, you can absolutely use the nut of your choice. I personally think cashews would be a wonderful substitution, as would pecans and walnuts.

Ingredients, Shopping List: Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy

Dry-Roasted Peanuts: Choose a lightly-salted peanut, as the salt pairs well with the chocolate, though you don't want it to overwhelm.

Semi-sweet chocolate chips: I really like the semi-sweet chocolate chips for baking/sweets. You will find them in the baking section of your local grocery store.

German Sweet Chocolate: Don't skip out on this ingredient -- it's a secret weapon!

Vanilla Bark: Also found in the baking section, vanilla bark (almond flavor) adds a different, yet essential, flavor profile to this candy. It's one of my favorite baking ingredients!

How To Make Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy

  1. Turn crockpot or slow cooker on low.
  2. Layer ingredients in the order listed: peanuts, semi-sweet chocolate chips, german sweet chocolate, vanilla bark.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours. As my aunt said in her recipe, do not "peek or stir".
  4. After the 2 hour mark, mix well and drop onto parchment paper. Allow to cool and enjoy!

Chocolate Peanut Crockpot Candy: Tips and Tricks

  • You'll want to be sure to place the ingredients in the crockpot in the order listed.
  • Try to place almond bark/chocolate as minimally around the sides of the crockpot/slow cooker as possible. If touching the side, it will have the opportunity to burn.
  • If the chocolate doesn't look fully melted after two hours, still stir it -- it will melt upon stirring and will be beautifully uniform.
  • For more even/beautiful chocolate peanut crockpot candy, dip the candy onto parchment paper with a small ice cream scoop.

Thank you for this old recipe. My 30-yr-old Grandson requested it for his birthday June 22, remembering we used to make it together when he was little. Of course, I am on my way to Publix for the ingredients!
