How to Make Southern Green Beans with Bacon

  1. Wash green beans. Snap and string each bean.
  2. Cut bacon into smaller pieces and cook in a large pot over medium heat until brown. Remove from pan and reserve the bacon grease. Cook diced onion in bacon grease for 3-4 minutes.

Pro Tips for Making This Recipe

  1. Always wash fresh beans in cold water.
  2. Fresh green beans truly make all of the difference in this recipe; that said, you can "doctor" up canned green beans in a similar fashion.
  3. Do not drain the bacon grease after cooking the bacon; you will use it to sauté the onion and to flavor the beans.

Hi, I'm looking for a southern green bean with bacon using frozen green beans as it has to be for 50 people. Can I use frozen and what would be the number of lbs? I see that fresh green beans is 10 lbs but I'm thinking because of the ice from being frozen it should be more? Can you help with this.? Thank you.
