Hey, y’all! I was largely inspired to cook by the women in my family. In true Kentucky fashion, they can whip up an award-winning meal (likely with their eyes closed!) and not even break a sweat. While I didn't inherit their grace, I did inherit a love for their recipes -- and one of my auntie JJ's signatures is her Homemade Strawberry Pie Recipe. I’ve hardly ever known a time where I couldn’t find a slice of strawberry pie in her refrigerator. I'd argue that it's a rite of passage of your visit at her house! The best part? JJ's Homemade Strawberry Pie Recipe could not be easier to make!

Frequently Asked Questions
JC's note: The key to making the best pie is to use the highest-quality of strawberries. The batch that you are seeing in these photos was made using strawberries grown by a close family friend, Henry, here in Kentucky. It’s best to make these pies when the fruit is in season, but you can certainly make them year-round! I do find, however, that this pie is best served in the summertime. Try it at your next cookout, pool party, church potluck, or family function!

Absolutely -- and I usually do!
No, but the pie will be better if they are. Make this recipe during peak season, but do know that you can make it all year.
The Recipe

Homemade Strawberry Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 frozen pie crust thawed
- 1 qt fresh strawberries stems removed, halved
- ⅔ c sugar
- ½ c water
- 3 tablespoon corn starch
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- whipped cream for topping
Instructions
- Bake the pie crust according to the listed instructions.
- In a large bowl, crush strawberries. I typically do this with the backside of a fork. Leave some of the berry mixture thick, while allowing juice to extract from the crushing. Add sugar and vanilla. Stir well.
- Add strawberry mixture to a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Allow mixture to reach a low boil, cooking until the fruit has softened.
- Whisk together water and cornstarch; add to strawberry mixture and return the mixture to a boil (medium-high heat). After reaching a boil, reduce heat and allow the mixture to simmer until thickened. Stir frequently.
- Transfer strawberry mixture to pie crust + refrigerate for 5 hours. Top with fresh whipped cream. Enjoy!
