The Oaks Lily

Hey, y’all! One of the two most iconic drinks served at Churchill Downs is the Oaks Lily. The Lily, which is the signature drink of the Kentucky Oaks, is a crowd-favorite to say the least. While the Oaks occurs on the Friday before the Derby, the Lily is served all week at the track.

Needless to say: this is a must-have at your Kentucky Derby Party. I'd even argue that it's a must-have all summer long!

About The Oaks

The Longines Kentucky Oaks is America’s premier and most lucrative race for 3-year old fillies (female horses) and is held each year on the day before the Kentucky Derby. The race is a $1.25 Million Grade 1 stakes race and the winning filly is awarded a garland of lilies, nicknamed “lilies for the fillies”.

The Kentucky Oaks is the second highest attended race in the United States, only trailing the Triple Crown (the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes).

If you plan to attend the Kentucky Oaks, be sure to wear pink — it’s tradition in driving attention to the fight against breast and ovarian cancer. Oaks Day is always a special day at the track!

I wanted to review this cocktail recipe but didn’t see where so I’ll add my comment here. We give this 10 stars! Seriously this drink was dangerously good. Easy to make a large batch and really refreshing. We had a derby party and not being a fan of bourbon I was trying to find something for me to enjoy. Saw on the morning news the Oaks official drink and went in search for a recipe. This is a drink I’ll be drinking all summer long. You reduce sugar using lighter or lower sugar juices and still be delicious.

I never heard of the oaks' lily nor of this signature drink. But this is a great opportunity to learn more about it. The recipe looks really delicious, so I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it! Cheers!

Sorry - I couldn't wait until the derby to mix up this drink! It's was a wonderful cocktail to serve when my neighbors stopped over and I'm sure I'll make again soon.

Do you use full on cranberry juice, or a "cranberry juice cocktail" (which has other juices mixed in)?

You can use either, but I typically just use the cranberry juice cocktail!
