Ingredients

  • 16 oz. can refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 medium green bell pepper diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 1 c. ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3 tsp. yellow mustard
  • 3 tsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, onions, and peppers. Cook until the meat is crumbled and cooked through, and the onions and peppers are softened.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder until well combined. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Separate the biscuits and cut each one into 8 pieces. Place the biscuit pieces into the bottom of your greased baking dish.
  • Pour the meat mixture on top of the biscuits and toss to coat evenly.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the coated biscuits.
  • Bake in the oven, uncovered, for 25 minutes.
  • Add the remaining cheese on top and bake for another 10 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through in the center.
  • Serve immediately or keep warm until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Using lean ground beef will reduce the amount of grease and make the dish less oily. If you use a higher-fat content beef, be sure to drain the excess grease after browning.
  • Cut the biscuits into even pieces to ensure they cook evenly. This helps achieve a consistent texture throughout the casserole.
  • Ensure the biscuits are cooked through by checking their center with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean, the biscuits are done.
  • For a bit of heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or some diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • Allow the casserole to sit for a few minutes after baking before serving. This helps it set and makes it easier to serve.
