- 2.5 oz Kentucky Bourbon
- ¾ oz Simple Syrup
- 4-5 Mint Leaves more for garnish
- Crushed Ice
In the bottom of a Derby glass, add the simple syrup and fresh mint leaves, then gently muddle to release the mint flavor.
Fill the glass generously with crushed ice before pouring in the bourbon.
Stir well, garnish with a fresh mint sprig, and enjoy.
- Gently muddle the mint leaves so they release flavor without becoming bitter. Press lightly rather than crushing them too much.
- Use crushed ice instead of cubes because it keeps the drink extra cold and gives a classic Mint Julep texture.
- Choose a good Kentucky bourbon since the flavor is front and center in this simple cocktail.
- Chill your Derby glass or julep cup beforehand to keep the drink colder for longer and create that signature frosted look.
- Garnish with fresh mint by lightly clapping the sprig between your hands first to help release the aroma.
