Ingredients

  • 2.5 oz Kentucky Bourbon
  • ¾ oz Simple Syrup
  • 4-5 Mint Leaves more for garnish
  • Crushed Ice

Instructions

  • In the bottom of a Derby glass, add the simple syrup and fresh mint leaves, then gently muddle to release the mint flavor.
  • Fill the glass generously with crushed ice before pouring in the bourbon.
  • Stir well, garnish with a fresh mint sprig, and enjoy.

Notes

  • Gently muddle the mint leaves so they release flavor without becoming bitter. Press lightly rather than crushing them too much.
  • Use crushed ice instead of cubes because it keeps the drink extra cold and gives a classic Mint Julep texture.
  • Choose a good Kentucky bourbon since the flavor is front and center in this simple cocktail.
  • Chill your Derby glass or julep cup beforehand to keep the drink colder for longer and create that signature frosted look.
  • Garnish with fresh mint by lightly clapping the sprig between your hands first to help release the aroma.
