Ingredients

  • 8 oz. cream cheese softened
  • 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ c. diced pickled jalapeños
  • ¼ c. chopped green onions
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sweet chili sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, diced jalapeños, chopped green onions, and garlic powder. Mix until well combined.
  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  • Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water and fold it in half to create a triangle, ensuring the filling is sealed inside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the wontons until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  • Serve the Jalapeño Popper Wontons warm with sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure to press the edges of the wonton wrappers firmly after moistening with water to prevent the filling from leaking out during frying.
  • Be careful not to overfill the wonton wrappers, as this can make them difficult to seal and cause them to burst open while frying.
  • If you have a kitchen thermometer, heat the oil to around 350°F for optimal frying. This helps ensure the wontons cook evenly and get crispy without absorbing too much oil.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the amount of jalapeños or use mild pickled jalapeños. For extra heat, you can add a dash of hot sauce to the cream cheese mixture.
  • You can prepare the wontons ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator until you're ready to fry. Just make sure to cover them with a damp paper towel to prevent the wrappers from drying out.
