Ingredients
  

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 tbsp. melted butter
  • 3 tbsp. brown sugar divided
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon divided
  • 4 apples diced
  • 2 tbsp. caramel sauce plus more for drizzling

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter with 1 tbsp. brown sugar and ½ tsp. cinnamon for about 30 seconds.
  • Spray a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray and place the Hawaiian rolls inside.
  • Cut out the center of each roll, being careful not to cut through the bottom.Brush the rolls all over with the cinnamon butter.
  • Dice the apples and add them to a pot with the remaining cinnamon, brown sugar, and caramel sauce.
  • Cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are softened and the sauce thickens.
  • Spoon the apple mixture into the center of each roll.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
  • Let the rolls cool slightly.
  • Fill a Ziploc bag with caramel sauce, snip off the corner, and drizzle over the rolls.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • When hollowing out the rolls, be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom. This helps hold the apple filling in place without any leaks.
  • Opt for firm apple varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp to ensure the filling doesn’t turn mushy during cooking.
  • Hawaiian rolls bake quickly, so keep a close eye during the last few minutes to prevent burning. A light golden color is perfect!
  • Cook the apple filling in advance and store it in the fridge. Reheat it slightly before assembling the rolls to save time.
