Hey, y'all! Love Asian food and want to make it at home? Look no further than my Homemade Teriyaki Chicken! There's no need to be intimidated if this is your first time making an Asian dish from scratch -- I've designed this recipe to be extremely simple and it comes together in just about 15 minutes. It'll turn into a weeknight favorite for the family and can be used in a multitude of ways, including meal prep. Enjoy!

Homemade Teriyaki Chicken: Easy, At-Home Asian Recipe
JC's note: this recipe was designed with the intention of making your own teriyaki sauce. It's so easy to make on your own! That said, if you want a shortcut, you can absolutely purchase a pre-made teriyaki sauce from the market. All major grocery chains have great options - and I've tried many of them. That said, my favorite is the teriyaki sauce from Aldi: it has amazing flavor and comes in at under $2.00. Very affordable, yet amazing quality!

Homemade Teriyaki Chicken

- Saucepan

For The Chicken
- 1.5 lbs Chicken Breast diced
- Garlic Powder to taste
- Onion Powder to taste
- Kosher Salt to taste
- Black Pepper to taste
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil for cooking
For The Teriyaki Sauce
- ½ c Water
- ¼ c Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
- 4 tablespoon Honey
- 3 tablespoon Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Ginger
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- ½ teaspoon Sesame Oil
- 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
- 2 tablespoon Cold Water
Instructions
For The Chicken
- Cut chicken breast into cubes. Heat extra virgin olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place chicken in oil and begin to cook. Season chicken with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste.
- Let the chicken fully brown on the bottom and flip (3-5 minutes, depending on heat). Flip chicken and move it around, allowing chicken to fully cook. Internal temperature should reach 165F. Set chicken aside.
For The Teriyaki Sauce
- Prepare the teriyaki sauce as the chicken is cooking. In a sauce pan over medium heat, combine water, brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and honey.
- Mix the cornstarch and the cold water in a separate bowl. Whisk until the cornstarch has fully dissolved.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan and heat until the sauce reaches your desired level of thickness.
To Finish
- Toss chicken in teriyaki sauce + serve!
Notes
Nutrition
My homemade teriyaki chicken is the perfect recipe for a busy evening - to save time, make the teriyaki sauce while the chicken is cooking. If you do that, the entire entree comes together in just 10-15 minutes. Chicken teriyaki serves perfectly over rice, with vegetables, in sandwiches/wraps, and in stir fry; further, it reheats well!

Y’all come back now, ya hear?
My best,
JC
