Hart County Gravy Trail

Hey, y'all! Salt and pepper. Tea and sugar. Mint and bourbon. Some things here in the south simply go together. Another? The south and gravy. Gravy is as rooted in our culture and lives as sweet tea - and, in my view, it's the most delicious southern delicacy. While there's plenty of delightful gravy to enjoy across Kentucky, there's no better way to experience it than on the Hart County Gravy Trail. Warning: visit on an empty stomach, y'all!

Hart County Gravy Trail

Hart County is chock-full of delicious food - and among that food, you will find more than your fair share of gravy. The Hart County Gravy Trail is not just about breakfast biscuits and gravy (which, let's be honest, are very important). It's also about the gravy accompanying main course dishes all day long!

5 Broke Girls

904 E Main St, Horse Cave, KY 42749

5 Broke Girls is self-described as homestyle cookin' with a Texas twist. Take one bite at this restaurant, and you'll quickly understand why it's one of my favorite restaurants in all of Kentucky! They serve biscuits and gravy + a breakfast skillet smothered in gravy for breakfast.

That said, I love eating lunch/dinner at 5 Broke Girls. My favorite dishes on the menu are the chicken fried steak and the chicken fried chicken. Both come smothered in a gravy that is simply divine.

Another great option is their roast beef manhattan, smothered with brown gravy.

Murray's

1021 Main St, Munfordville, KY 42765

If you're looking for a classic mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurant -- look no further than Murray's. You'll love their old-school, home-cooked dishes. They feature many specials that have gravy: chicken fried steak, roast beef and gravy, chicken livers and gravy, along with traditional biscuits and gravy at breakfast.

Farmwald's

3678-3876 L and N Turnpike Rd, Horse Cave, KY 42749

Farmwald's is one of my favorite Amish-owned businesses in Hart County. Located just off the interstate, Farmwald's serves a delicious breakfast. Biscuits and gravy are served with both the Amish breakfast and the Amish Farmer's Breakfast. If you want to order them a la carte, they are available in single and double orders.

Wigwam General Store

7015 S Jackson Hwy, Horse Cave, KY 42749

A local favorite, the Wigwam General Store serves up delicious daily specials - and you'll love their breakfast. Order the biscuits and gravy with an extra side of bacon!

The Feeder Restaurant

103 S Dixie St, Horse Cave, KY 42749

The Feeder offers much more than delicious pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. On your next visit, try their Lemon Thyme Schnitzel -- a perfectly seasoned, fried pork schnitzel covered with a light lemon and thyme gravy. It's divine!

C&J Cafe

103 N Dixie St, Horse Cave, KY 42749

Located conveniently in downtown Horse Cave, C&J Cafe serves a delicious homemade breakfast. You've found your spot if you want biscuits and gravy to start your day downtown! In addition, they have lunch specials that feature gravy, such as roast beef and gravy.

ABOUT HART COUNTY, KY

Hart County, located in South Central Kentucky, lies predominately within the central portion of the Pennyroyal region of the state. Nolin River forms the county's western boundary, and the Green River winds through the center. Hart County contains five of Kentucky's ten largest springs, including Gorin Mill Spring, the largest in the state. Further, they are home to the world-famous Hidden River Cave, part of Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky Down Under, and an award-winning trail system.
