What is Bread Pudding?

Bread pudding is popular in many cuisines, though originated in England. The base is stale, day-old, or left-over bread; it's the perfect dish for using up what you already have in the kitchen. However, there's a twist: the dish made from the left-over bread is even more delicious than the original purpose!

Ingredients, Shopping List

  • Bread (though use it when it's left-over or stale): challah, Hawaiian, brioche, loaf bread -- whatever you have or will use for other purposes! You'll use roughly 6 cups of cubed bread.
  • Eggs: 5 eggs will be used in this recipe.
  • Milk: 2 cups -- I like to use whole milk.
  • Heavy Cream: 1 cup - it just makes everything better, y'all!
  • Brown Sugar, Granulated Sugar: 1 cup each.
  • Kentucky Bourbon: ¼ cup, y'all!
  • Unsalted Butter: I prefer to bake/cook with unsalted butter + add salt if needed. It enables you to have full control of the salt level of your dishes. You'll use ¼ of a stick to grease your cast iron skillet.
  • Good Vanilla Extract: 2 tablespoon -- it really makes a huge difference!
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon - I use kosher.
  • Cinnamon, Nutmeg: 1 tsp. each.
  • Whipped Cream + Fresh Berries + Mint: for garnish.
