Ingredients

  • 2 lb. stew beef
  • 2 tbsp. mustard
  • ½ c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. minced dried onion
  • 1 tsp. steak seasoning
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1 c. BBQ sauce

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, toss the stew beef with mustard, brown sugar, liquid smoke, garlic salt, minced onion, steak seasoning, and smoked paprika.
  • Place the stew beef in a 9x13 baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 1 ½ - 2 hours or until tender.
  • Take out of the oven and drain off any liquid. Toss the burnt ends in the BBQ sauce.
  • Turn oven to 450 for 15 minutes or until they are dark and caramelized “burnt”.

Notes

  • Use stew beef: It becomes incredibly tender with the long cook time.
  • Cover tightly: Foil keeps the moisture in and helps the beef soften.
  • Drain before saucing: Removing excess liquid helps the BBQ sauce caramelize.
  • Crank the heat: That final blast at 450° gives you the signature burnt ends texture.
  • Choose your sauce: Sweet, spicy, smoky, whatever you love works beautifully.
