Hey, y’all! I’ll confess: I don’t eat a lot of ham – and when I do, it’s usually country ham. That said, in preparation for Easter, I started experimenting with ways to make ham and landed on this: a pineapple skillet-fried ham! It is absolutely delicious and as easy as can be! I know y’all are going to love it this holiday + year ’round. Enjoy!

JC’s note: anytime I want to put ginger in a recipe, I choose to use local Kentucky favorite Ale-8-One. While it’s fabulous to drink, it’s equally fabulous to cook with! You can interchangeably use Ale-8-One or Ale-8 Zero Sugar in the recipe. It’s purely your preference!

About Ale-8: Launched in July of 1926, Ale-8-One is the only Kentucky-invented soft drink still in existence. It was invented by G. L. Wainscott and was named via one of America’s first slogan contests at the Clark County Fair. “A Late One” – the winning entry – was a pun adopted for its witty description. From that, a Kentucky legacy transpired.

8 slices of ham, thick-sliced (support local if you can!)

20 oz. crushed pineapple (separate pineapple from juice, both are used individually)

1/2 c. reduced sodium soy sauce

1/2 c. Ale-8-One

1/4 c. brown sugar

2 tbsp. dijon mustard

Butter, for frying


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine pineapple juice, soy sauce, Ale-8-One, brown sugar, and dijon mustard.
  2. Submerge slices of ham in the mixture and allow it to marinate for a minimum of 1-2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Remove slices of ham from the marinade and place into a skillet with butter over medium heat.
  4. Cook on each side until browned, roughly 3-4 minutes.
  5. After all ham is cooked and has been removed from the skillet, place 1 can of pineapple chunks in the skillet and allow them ever-so-slightly brown (3-5 minutes).
  6. Serve ham topped with pineapple; enjoy!
