Wakefield-Scearce Galleries: Kentucky Christmas Tradition

Housed in an esteemed brick building, Wakefield-Scearce boasts one of the largest collections/inventories of silver and fine, antique English furniture in the United States. Most of the items that you find in the shop are of European descent - and they are top-tier to say the least!
Mint Julep Cups
My favorite part about Wakefiled-Scearce? They're famous for their Mint Julep cups - a true embodiment of Kentucky culture. Their cups have been featured in Southern Living, Kentucky Homes and Gardens, and the Keeneland Magazine. They are heavy, handmade, and are either sterling or pewter. They emboss cups with the names of each President of the United States upon taking office, ultimately sending one to the White House, along with doing the same for the Governors of Kentucky.

Christmas at Wakefield-Scearce
While I love visiting the gallery year-round (and I recommend doing the same), it's extremely special this time of year. Upon walking in the front door, you are greeted by one of the most stunning Christmas trees that I have ever laid my eyes on! It's huge -- and immaculately decorated, though there's no surprise there.
The best part? Each and every room (and there are many) of Wakefield-Scearce has a tree in it! No tree is alike, as they all have unique themes. The only commonality is that you will want to pull out your camera for each one, as they are truly a sight to behold!

Have A Meal While There: The Georgian Room
I made my excursion a holiday outing for a couple of friends and myself. After wondering the gallery for an hour or so, it was time for our reservation at the Georgian Room of the Science Hill Inn. Located in the same building on the property, the dining room takes you back to an elegant, more proper time in the South. White tablecloths, iced tea, and delicious, mouthwatering Southern food — need I say more?
My meal started with their Caesar salad, which is one of my favorites. The dressing is divine! Pam and Shelby split the Harvest Salad, which I also enjoyed sampling -- it featured mixed greens, candied pecans, pickled red onions, honey crisp apples, bacon, gorgonzola, and an apple cider vinaigrette.

Next came the Fried Green Tomato "Lasagna", which is technically an entree, but I find it to be the perfect appetizer: Southern-style fried green tomatoes, house-made pimento cheese, and remoulade. Yes, please.
For my main dish, I chose the Tarragon Chicken Salad, which is a favorite of mine. Shelby and Pam went classic Kentucky and chose the Hot Brown and Fried Chicken respectively. The best part of dining with friends? You really order 3x the food, as you get to sample each other's plates!
Oh, and I can't forget to mention the BREAD. Yes, all caps = required. The cornbread is great, but the homemade yeast rolls served to each table take the gold for me. One of my favorite parts of the meal -- always!
