Hey, y'all! Kentucky is chock-full of fantastic cuisine - and while we are known for our hot browns, fried chicken, benedictine sandwiches, and burgoo, there is a plethora of diverse, delicious food around the state. One of my favorite things to do is to stumble upon a new restaurant that packs a surprise, which is precisely the case for Blue Holler Cafe. Who knew you could get authentic German cuisine in Mammoth Cave, KY?

Blue Holler Cafe is located on a hill en route to Mammoth Cave National Park. When you walk in, you immediately feel at home. The location is cozy, country, and quirky; the cuisine is unique, bold, and undeniably memorable. I fully believe you can't go wrong with any menu choices!

For context, I love dining at German restaurants - and I even reside in the Germantown area of Louisville. Going into this restaurant, I had high hopes for the dishes. Needless to say, they were met and exceeded.
What I Ordered
There's no better way to start a meal at Blue Holler Cafe than with the German pretzel. Warning: it is enormous! You'll love the salty exterior and accompanying mustard; if you prefer a pretzel without salt, you can also order it that way.

As for my meal, I enjoyed the sauerbraten, spaetzle, and red cabbage. If this is the daily special when you visit, look no further. It doesn't get more German than Sauerbraten, which is often a tender, marinated beef, venison, or pork. It's also regarded as the national dish of Germany! Blue Holler Cafe's dish featured pork, and it was unbelievably delicious. The meat is topped with a rich, sweet-and-sour gravy unlike anything you've ever had before.

I was also a big fan of the spaetzle and red cabbage. The red cabbage was akin to a tangy slaw, while the spaetzle was a traditional egg pasta (which is commonly served on the side of meat dishes with gravy in Germany).

My grandmother ordered the gyro, which was also divine!
