Fighting Food Insecurity With RITZ: #RITZLunchGoesOn

Hey, y'all! Food insecurity is, sadly, an issue that plagues many communities across the nation. It plagues both my home state (Kentucky) and the Appalachian region (the area in which I was raised). These experiences have inspired me to do the best that I can to combat food insecurity. As such, I am excited to tell y'all about the new #RITZLunchGoesOn initiative from RITZ Crackers at Walmart in partnership with Feeding America. Fighting Food Insecurity With RITZ

It's flabbergasting to think about the amount of children that depend on school lunches to eat reliably. RITZ took note of this and the #RITZLunchGoesOn project was born! For every RITZ brand product purchased at Walmart in the month of March (3/1-3/31), RITZ will donate $.10 (up to $1,000,000) to Feeding America. This is an easy way to be philanthropic while simply purchasing a classic, at-home staple!

Children Depend On Lunch

When I think about my favorite lunch, my mind immediately goes back to my pimento cheese -- which has been my favorite for years, stemming all the way back to childhood. As I prepared it recently with my RITZ crackers on the side, I was reminded of the warmth and safety I felt in knowing that my meals were secure growing up. That said, access to food is a privilege and that memory really drove that message home for me. I want to ensure that schoolchildren - who often depend on school lunch as a main (or only) meal - remain able to receive nourishment. The #RITZLunchGoesOn campaign does just that.

In case you didn't know: Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. The Feeding America network of food banks, pantries, and meal programs serve virtually every community in the United States. To put a number with it, they serve: 40 million people, including 12 million children, and 7 million seniors. They truly do amazing work!

Donate RITZ To Your Local Food Banks

RITZ Crackers are a household go-to of mine, as I always need some on hand for snacking and/or recipes. As I know many of y'all are the same way, buying them at Walmart in March is the easiest way to give back to Feeding America at no additional cost to you. That said, I challenge you - if able - to do more.

When I went to Walmart recently, I purchased a bulk quantity of RITZ brand products to donate to a local neighborhood food mailbox. These mailboxes, which you can find around both Louisville and many other cities, are very popular destinations for your neighbors to obtain food. I love my city, its people, and helping those that are in need -- and I feel called to do so.

If you do not have access to a mailbox such as this one, no worries! There is a food bank, a church, or a nonprofit organization that serves the hungry in your community. They will be so pleased to receive your donation, I assure you of that!

The more RITZ brand products you purchase, the more impact you have: you can donate the product itself + RITZ will donate simultaneously to Feeding America. That's a win-win by my standard!
