Cooking with Ale-8-One

I love cooking with Ale-8-One because it adds the perfect ginger flavor profile to a plethora of dishes; in using it, I am uplifting a Kentucky tradition and supporting a family-owned business in the meantime. Sounds like a win-win in my book, y'all.

Ingredients

Wings

  • 18 Chicken Wings
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Kosher Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Glaze

  • ¾ c. Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
  • ¼ c. Honey
  • 4 tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1.25 tbsp. Corn Starch
  • 1 tbsp. Sesame Oil
  • 2 tsp. Hoisin
  • 2 tsp. Garlic Powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425F.
  • In a bowl, coat chicken wings with EVOO and liberally season with salt and pepper.
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil; place chicken wings on the baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes.
  • While the chicken wings are baking, combine soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, lemon juice, sesame oil, hoisin, and garlic powder in a saucepan. Over low-medium heat, whisk until all ingredients are uniformly combined.
  • In a small bowl, mix the corn starch with equal parts water. After combined, add to the saucepan and whisk. This will serve as a thickening agent for the glaze. I often turn my heat to medium for this.
  • Remove chicken wings from the oven. If there is excess oil on the aluminum foil, remove wings from previous foil and replace with a new sheet.
  • Liberally coat each wing with glaze.
  • Return wings to oven and allow to cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Easy and so, so delicious, y'all. You'll love the pairing of the ginger from the Ale-8-One with the Asian flavors! The best part? This glaze can be repurposed on a multitude of proteins, not just chicken wings. I also like to make a little extra and serve it on the side as a dipping sauce. Now that's decadent!

About Ale-8-One

Launched in July of 1926, Ale-8-One is the only Kentucky-invented soft drink still in existence. It was invented by G. L. Wainscott and was named via one of America’s first slogan contests at the Clark County Fair. “A Late One” – the winning entry – was a pun adopted for its witty description. From that, a Kentucky legacy transpired.

Y’all come back now, ya hear?

My best,

JC
