Hey, y’all! The Kentucky Derby, as I’ve said many times before, is my favorite holiday. As such, I wanted to share a classic with you: the Lily® Cocktail Recipe.
Unfortunately, this is a nontraditional racing year and fans are not allowed at the track. Usually, I spend all week at Churchill Downs celebrating the finest showing of sweet, southern, Kentucky culture.
That said, I won’t let the pandemic dull my shine: I’m celebrating the Kentucky Derby at home!
The Oaks Lily®
There’s a significant amount of track-goers and Kentuckians that prefer the Oaks Lily® to the Mint Julep. In all honesty, I love the Lily® a lot, too. (RELATED: Mint Julep Recipe)
The Lily®, which is the official drink of the Oaks (Friday at Churchill Downs), is a delicious vodka-based cocktail. $1 from each Lily® cocktail sold on Kentucky Oaks Day is donated to Horses & Hope, an organization that increases breast cancer awareness, education, screening, and treatment referrals among Kentucky horse industry workers and their families.
In true Elle Woods fashion, attendees of the Kentucky Oaks are encouraged to wear pink. Want to dress to match your cocktail? The Oaks is for you! While the Lily® certainly tastes better at Churchill Downs, serving it at your Oaks party will have to do this year! (I’m looking at you, 2020…)
