Many of you know this, but Danville is one of my favorite places in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (and that’s a pretty big statement, as I am sure y’all are aware of by now). Why? It’s a beautiful, small community in Central Kentucky; however, more importantly, it’s home to Centre College, my beloved alma mater.
The Still is a new restaurant – and completely new concept – for Danville. I loved it, however I left with mixed emotions. It made me proud to see the community progress in the culinary realm, yet sad that I didn’t have this eatery around during my undergraduate years!
The largest inspiration for the food at the Still is Brazilian cuisine; however, you will find some US traditions, along with others, thrown into the mix.
They specialize in craft cocktails; if you go without having the classic caipirinha (Espirito Classico Cachaca, lime, cane sugar) you’re doing it wrong. Case closed.
The service was fantastic, as was the atmosphere. I loved that diners are able to see the copper pot at work while enjoying their food — it really connects the distillery and culinary concept, one thing that I think, as a KY Foodie, that our Commonwealth is working towards.
Now — the food!
Candied Bacon w/ Molé: applewood-smoked, maple glazed, served with a molé dipping sauce. Simply delicious!
Bombas Verdes: shishito peppers with cachaca, lime, and a Peruvian yellow chili dipping sauce.
Coxinha: A Brazilian fritter stuffed with chicken, scallions, corn, and piri piri sauce.
Pepper Palm Chicken Flatbread: chicken, palm hearts, roast tomato jam, jalapeno, feta.
Empanadas – my favorite course of the evening!
No meal is complete without dessert, am I right or am I right?
