Hey, y’all!
About Butchertown Grocery:
To quote their website, “Housed inside a modest 19th-century brick building in the heart of Louisville’s best neighborhood is the award-winning Butchertown Grocery. Serving refined food in a former family market, we are proud to be voted amongst the nation’s top restaurants.”
As for the history behind the name of Butchertown Grocery, “In the early-to-mid 1900s, our building was home to a family-owned grocery called Gunkel’s. More than just a corner market, Gunkel’s was a gathering place where locals came to buy produce and meats, and chew the fat with the owner, Hattie Gunkel. We tip our hat to the Gunkels – and to the tradition of bringing people together through great food.”
I love how they have paid homage to Louisville history.

What We Ordered At Butchertown Grocery:

We started with this pear + cheddar stuffed phyllo. The combination was, to say the least, brilliant.

Next was this filling, simple breakfast croissant: bacon, egg, and cheese. However simplistic, the flavors were top-notch. It was arguably the best croissant that I have had in years, rivaling those that I had in France.

Escargot – need I say more? One of my favorites!

The most fabulous oysters in Louisville – trust me on that assertion, y’all.

If you put an egg on anything, I’m down – especially if it’s over this pasta. Delicious!

Is any meal complete without an order of beignets? Not in my world!
